"To pass out: perchance to dream."

(click image) Taken at the back counter of Sheeba coffee shop in Amsterdam. After purchase. Before consumption. Of coffee, of course. Good flavor, that White Widow.

I was waiting for some Amsterdam shout outs.. Love that city. My favorite part are the guys who stand on the streetcorners and say "Acid cocaine ecstasy heroin marijuana hashish" and it's all one little brown, shit looking pill.

Oh, and I'll take the "American Dream Joint," with "POWER BALLS! (NEW!)"

It's the NEW! that gets me.

Great kickback in A'dam: The overstuffed sofas at the Dylan Hotel after midnight. Munch on addictive wasabi pistachios with giant tumblers of Grey Goose on the rocks served up by Aranud, the night manager.

Only the long, dark winters keep it from being paradise.

You know what, I've never actually seen an Amsterdam coffeeshop serve coffee. I don't think they even bother any more.

That said, you can't sell drugs and booze on the same premises (except for a single bar which has an exception license). But the bartender/night manager at my hostel had no problem with people going next door to buy a joint, then come back and smoke it at the bar.

I had coffee in every shop I was in back in Feb. Even though it's part of a chain, the rokerij next to the leidesplein was my first choice for most of my stay.

Best City Ever.

Just returned from an extended visit of Holland. The Sheeba Coffeeshop is excellent - very friendly and helpful and excellent coffee (and other things).

I have to say though, it was ten years since my last visit to Amsterdam, and although it may just be that I've grown up a lot since I was 18, everywhere seems so sleazy and touristy.

Personally I much preferred visiting Maastricht in the South of Holland. It's a beautiful, clean small town, where you can still get as stoned as you want, but you don't feel as though you're wandering through the pages of some seedy tourist trap. Maastricht is also much cheaper and even friendlier.
